IN a serious breach of VIP security at the border R S Pura town this afternoon,a state police constable in his bid to reach Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah,tried to break through the protection ring of black cat commandoes around him. Identified as Sohan Lal (No. 1970J) of Nai Basti Gulabgarh in R S Pura tehsil,the constable was whisked away by local police before he could reach the Chief Minister. Omar was at that time proceeding towards the helicopter already waiting for him in the ground of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) at R S Pura. Pointing out that Omar had gone there to inaugurate a three day orientation programme for newly elected Sarpanches and Panchs,sources said that the trouble erupted when he was returning to the helicopter after the function. Since August 15 last year,this has been the second such breach in the security of Omar Abdullah who has been provided Z plus security in view of the threat perception to him. Earlier,a police constable had hurled a shoe on the Chief Minister soon after he unfurled the national flag at Srinagars Bakshi Stadium on the occasion of Independence Day. About todays incident,sources said that taking the SSG commandoes and police men by surprise,a constable in uniform suddenly raised slogan ''Bharat Mata Ki Jai and started running towards the Chief Minister. As the police and SSG commandoes came forward to stop him,he tried to dodge them in his continued bid to proceed towards the helicopter. My number is 1970, he was heard shouting to attract Omars attention,but the latter did not respond and boarded the helicopter. The cop was overpowered by police,but he was heard asking his colleagues as to why they had caught hold of him when he was not drunk. '' Mein Piye Hue Nahin Hoon , he repeatedly shouted while he was being whisked away from the spot. Sub Divisional Police Officer,R S Pura,H S Gill,however,said that the cop was mentally ill and he had already been undergoing treatment of a psychiatrist. In view of his mental health,he was already attached with the District Police Lines (DPL) at Jammu. On Friday also,he was going to DPL from his home as usual,but stopped at SKUAST in view of the function. No one took notice of him as he being a local from the same area continued sitting with the audience which had come to listen to the Chief Minister,Gill pointed out,adding that the cop was overpowered by alert policemen soon after he tried to attract Chief Ministers attention towards him.
