MDMK not to contest TN,Puducherry polls

MDMK said it was piqued by the 'consistent ill-treatment' of AIADMK during seat-sharing talks.

MDMK decided against contesting Tamil Nadu and Puducherry assembly elections, saying it was piqued by the “consistent ill-treatment” and “arrogant stand” of AIADMK during the seat-sharing talks.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the district secretaries of the party in the early hours of the day.

A resolution passed at the meeting said,”The arrogant attitude of AIADMK to its long-term ally and a meager offer of eight seats hurt the sentiments of the party…We don’t want to sell our self respect for the sake of a few seats and decided that we will not contest the polls.”

A last minute effort by the AIADMK leadership to prevail upon MDMK with an offer of 13 seats could not succeed and MDMK leaders went into a huddle around the midnight and took the decision at 4AM.
