NSA on Varun has nothing to do with Centre: PM

Asked to comment on invoking of the stringent NSA against Varun Gandhi,Prime Minister said it had nothing to do with the Centre.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is unfazed by the recent developments in the UPA,including the desertion by PMK and the plan by RJD,LJP and SP to form a secular alliance ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

“This is not the last word,” Singh said on Monday when asked to comment on the developments in the ruling coalition.

Singh was replying to questions on the sidelines of presentation of Padma Awards at a function in the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The Prime Minister hoped that the allies would come back to the UPA fold.

Asked to comment on invoking of the stringent NSA against Varun Gandhi,Singh said it had nothing to do with the Centre.

“This has nothing to do with the Centre. The state government in Uttar Pradesh has taken the decision,” he said.

Singh said if what was being attributed to Varun,a BJP nominee from Pilibhit constituency,was true,”it is very unfortunate”.

Observing that Varun had a distinguished legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi,who have given their lives in promoting communal harmony,Singh said his comments were “more out of sorrow than anger”.
