Describing RJD supremo Lalu Prasad’s poll promises for the upper castes as an “eyewash”,the BJP on Thursday challenged him to project an upper caste leader as its chief ministerial candidate for the Bihar Assembly elections.
“The RJD chief should project any of its upper caste leaders as the chief ministerial candidate if he was serious about shedding his image as an anti-forward caste leader,” BJP National Vice-President Kiran Ghai told reporters here.
Slamming Prasad for poll promises like 10 per cent job reservation for the upper castes, she claimed that these sections had not forgotten atrocities, mass murders and insults during the 15-year-long RJD-led rule in the state.
The RJD supremo’s distrust for them was proved when he chose to bring his wife Rabri Devi as the CM in 1990s following his imprisonment in connection with the fodder scam cases instead of giving the post to a senior leader like Raghuvansh Prasad Singh,Ghai said.
Prasad’s bias against them was further proved by marginalisation of several leaders from these communities in the RJD which compelled them to take refuge in other political parties in the run up to the Assembly polls, she said.
Ghai also took a dig at LJP supremo Ram Vilas Paswan for doing a U-turn on making a Muslim leader the chief minister of Bihar and alleged that his pro-minority stance withered away once the elections were over.
