The BJP said it has extended support for creation of a separate Telangana state as smaller states would pave way for good governance and faster development. "Smaller states would develop faster with transparent administration and accountability which is witnessed in states like Chhattisgarh,Uttrakhand and Jharkhand that were formed when the NDA government was in power at the Centre," party's National spokesperson Nirmala Sitaraman told reporters. Claiming that there was nothing wrong in creating smaller states, she said both Telangana and Coastal Andhra regions in Andhra Pradesh would develop if separate Telangana is created. When asked why separate Telangana was not created during the NDA regime itself, she said it was not possible at that time as the main supporting party Telugu Desam had opposed the move and there was also lack of unanimity among the political parties. Regarding possible Naxal threat in smaller states, she said Naxal problems are there in bigger states as well. "Every state is faced with Naxal problem and it is not confined to smaller states. Bigger states like West Bengal are also facing the problem," she said.
