Trial of Dawood’s frontman cleared for hot-branding prisoner

The trio had been summoned by city’s additional chief metropolitan magistrate (ACMM) in November 2010 on a complaint by another murder convict Satpal Bedi that the two jailers got the word ‘kamina’ branded on his back with a burning mosquito coil at Sharma’s behest.

The sessions court upheld the summons to the trio,dismissing their pleas against the magisterial court order.

“This court does not find any illegality or irregularity in the (ACMM’s) impugned order,” the ASJ said dismissing their pleas.

The trio had moved the court against ACMM’s order summoning them as accused to face trial for inflicting burn injuries on Bedi after wrongfully confining him under threat.

Bedi had alleged that the jail superintendent,the ward in-charge and other inmates assaulted him inside the jail and inflicted burn injuries on his back on November 18,2010 at the behest of Sharma,serving life term for killing his fashion designer girlfriend Kunjum Budhiraja.

He had made the allegation first on November 20,2010 before Delhi chief metropolitan magistrate,before whom he was produced on his plea. CMM had got him medically examined and and referred his complaint to the ACMM.

Bedi had told the ACMM that jail officials Bhardwaj and Rathore summoned him before them in the remand room where he was asked to write an application for getting himself shifted to Tihar from Rohini jail. When he refused to do so,he alleged that his hands and legs were tied and he was beaten up.

They also inflicted burn injuries on his back,he said,adding only later he came to know that they had written the expletive on his back.

Claiming that he was tortured at the behest of Sharma,he alleged that they also threatened to kill him by showing him as trying to commit a jail break.
