With the results of the Assembly elections announced on Sunday and all options being weighed on who will form the government and how,the Election Commission will have to declare all the winning candidates through a gazette notification,a process that will take another two days. After that the ball will be in Lt Governor Najeeb Jung’s court.

Here are the options in front of him,and Delhi.

Option 1. BJP,the single largest party, stakes claim or waits for Lt Governor to invite its leader Harsh Vardhan to form government. Will have to prove majority within a fixed time.

Option 2. BJP declines, and AAP gets the invite. However,Arvind Kejriwal will also have to prove his majority within a fixed time.

Option 3. If both parties fail to claim or stay in power, the city state might see a spell of L-G’s rule, which could last for a maximum of six months in one go. This can be extended up to one year.
