Madhya Pradesh HC has modified its previous order staying the declaration of NEET-UG 2025 results across the country and allowed the NTA to announce results for all centres, barring those affected in Indore where alleged technical issues disrupted the exam process.

short article insert During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the respondents, submitted that the result declaration had been halted across India due to problems reported from only about 11 centres in Indore and that such a sweeping stay was unnecessary. The SG requested the court to permit the release of results for unaffected centres.

Opposing this, the petitioners’ counsel said that students who were unable to take the exam due to technical issues might miss the opportunity to participate in counselling sessions if results were declared prematurely.

HC Judge Justice Subodh Abhyankar found merit in Mehta’s argument and directed that results for all centres except those affected in Indore are to be declared. The NTA is required to submit a detailed report identifying the centres impacted by power failure during the exam in the next two days, the May 16 order said. The matter will be heard next on May 19.

Meanwhile, the Madras HC has temporarily restrained the NTA from releasing the NEET-UG results after hearing a plea by 13 students alleging severe disruption during the exam at a Chennai centre due to a power outage and storm. Justice V Lakshmi-narayanan of the Vacation Bench passed the interim order Friday after hearing a joint writ petition filed by the students who appeared for the exam at PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya CRPF, Avadi.

The HC directed the NTA to investigate whether a power failure occurred at the centre during the exam on May 4 and whether it materially affected the candidates’ performance. It directed the authorities to submit their response before the declaration of NEET-UG results on June 14, and posted the matter for hearing on June 2.

According to the affidavit by the petitioners, the disruption started an hour into the test when heavy rain and storm-like conditions knocked out electricity at the centre. The petitioners claimed that the hall lacked basic backup infrastructure — no inverters or generators were in place. Rainwater reportedly entered the hall, creating panic and leading many to be relocated from their original seats, they claimed.

The petitioners claimed that despite the chaos and disruption, no additional time was granted, and many were unable to complete the paper. “The affected students were deprived of equal opportunity and a fair environment,” the petition said.”
