The multi-party delegations heading to foreign capitals will today be given key “talking points” by the Ministry of External Affairs on India’s fight against terrorism emanating from Pakistani soil, the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor and its aftermath, and the new red lines drawn by the government.
The visit by seven delegations to 32 countries is part of the government’s diplomatic push to isolate Pakistan internationally. The delegations would convey to foreign capitals that India had been a victim of terror emanating from its neighbouring country, and the world should not equate India and Pakistan – one a victim of terror and the other the perpetrator.
The delegations deputed to visit foreign capitals will start being briefed for the exercise by the Ministry of External Affairs today.
Comprising MPs across party lines from both houses of Parliament, senior leaders and former diplomats, these delegations will undertake the exercise for a fortnight between May 21 and June 5.
The delegations include one led by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Eknath Shinde, which is scheduled to visit the UAE, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sierra Leone, sources said.
Sources said the delegation is likely to fly down to the UAE and will be the first among the seven constituted for the international outreach. It is likely to be briefed on Tuesday afternoon.
One of the delegates, who has been part of similar foreign delegations in the past, said that the contingent is expected to be briefed regarding the main points of India’s action against Pakistan following specific instances of provocation from across the border and India’s decision to retaliate under the circumstances.
According to a delegate from another group, two more such contingents are likely to be part of the MEA briefing, which would be helmed by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
The delegation led by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, scheduled to visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Algeria, is scheduled to be briefed on Thursday and will fly out early Friday morning, sources said.
The delegation led by DMK MP Kanimozhi, which will visit Spain, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia and Russia, is scheduled to depart on Thursday.
The delegation led by JDU MP Sanjay Jha, which will visit Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Japan and Singapore, will also reach Japan on Thursday.
Led by senior BJP leader and MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, a delegation scheduled to visit the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the European Union, Italy and Denmark will start from France on May 25.
The delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, which is scheduled to visit the USA, Panama, Guyana, Brazil and Colombia, is scheduled to reach Guyana on May 25.
Scheduled to visit Egypt, Qatar, Ethiopia and South Africa, the delegation led by NCP (SCP) MP Supriya Sule will start from Qatar on May 24.
