(Representational image)A Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel was killed and another injured in a militant attack in south Kashmir’s Pulwama on Monday evening.
Police sources said the RPF personnel were targeted when they had gone to a tea stall outside the Kakapora railway station in Pulwama. Both were critically injured in the attack and shifted to a hospital where Head Constable Surinder Singh was declared brought dead, while Sub-Inspector Dev Raj was referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment.
Hospital sources say Raj’s condition continues to remain critical.
“Terrorists fired at RPF personnel at Kakapora, Pulwama. In this terror incident, two RPF personnel sustained injuries and were evacuated to hospital where one succumbed to the injuries. Area cordoned off,” J-K Police tweeted.
Immediately after the attack, J-K Police, Army and paramilitary forces cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation to track down the attackers. However, no arrests couldn’t be made till the filing of the report.
South Kashmir, especially Pulwama, has seen a spurt in militant attacks in recent days, including attacks on non-local workers, in which seven migrant workers were injured.
On Sunday, a soldier was killed in a brief gunfight at Kokernag. Earlier this month, militants also carried out a shoot-and-run attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Srinagar, killing a personnel and wounding another.
