Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology begins application process for Master’s, PhD courses

The last date for submitting online applications for both programmes is June 26

The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) in Thiruvananthapuram, an autonomous institution of the Centre’s Department of Biotechnology, has initiated the application process for the M.Sc Biotechnology programme for the academic year 2024-26.

It has also invited applications for admission to the PhD programme beginning August 2024 in various domains of disease biology, neurobiology, bioinformatics and plant science.

For the two-year Master’s course, candidates who have cleared the Graduate Aptitude Test – Biotechnology (GAT-B) are eligible to apply. The course offers specialisations in two disciplines — Disease Biology and Genetic Engineering. There are 20 seats in the course, including 10 each for each of the specialisation.

Students admitted to the course will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 6,000 in the first year, and Rs 8,000 in the second year.

The final selection of the students will be made based on the GAT-B cut-off rank/score fixed by the RGCB for each category.

The counselling process will start in the first week of July, and classes will begin on August 01, 2024.

The facility of hostel accommodation is also available on the institute’s campus.

PhD programme

Candidates having a postgraduate degree in life, agricultural, environmental, veterinary,  pharmaceutical or medical Sciences, or allied subjects, with a minimum of 60 per cent marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in the UGC 10-point scale and a valid JRF (UGC/ CSIR/ ICMR/ DBT/ DST-INSPIRE or any other nationally competitive fellowship) for a period of five years offered by the government can apply for the programme.

The maximum age limit is 26 years as of the application deadline. However, the age limit will be relaxed for reserved categories (Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes), and persons with disabilities.

The last date for submitting online applications for both programmes is June 26.
