Amarnath Yatra security arrangements reviewed in J-K

Close coordination required between different departments for smooth conduct of the yatra.

A senior government officer today stressed the need for close coordination among various departments to ensure fool-proof security arrangements for smooth conduct of the annual Amarnath yatra beginning June 29.

“There is need for close coordination between different departments for ensuring fool-proof arrangements for smooth conduct of the yatra,” Divisional Commissioner of Jammu Pawan Kotwal said at meeting of officers of various department in

connection with the yatra at Udhampur.

Briefing Kotwal about the different arrangements already put in place by the administration,District Development Commissioner Baseer Khan said a joint control room has been set up and an officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner has been put as a nodel officer for monitoring the yatra.

Khan said additional control rooms have been set up along Jammu-Srinagar highway at Tikri and Chenani police stations.

To meet any emergency situations,health department would augment medical facilities at Tikri,Rehmble,Udhampur,Chenani and Kud health centres with ambulances and doctors.

In case of bad weather and closure of highways,arrangements have been made for lodging.

The Divisional Commissioner has also directed the officers to conduct regular checking at markets to ensure that pilgrims are not over-charged by shopkeepers.

The Amarnath yatra will begin from June 29 and will conclude on August 13 and first batch of pilgrims will leave from Jammu base camp for the cave shrine on June 28.

Over 2.25 lakh pilgrims have been registered for yatra this year.
