Certain areas of state facing development apartheid: Mufti

The opposition accused the government of being apathetic to the development needs of the state.

Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused Jammu and Kashmir government of being apathetic to the development needs of the state and said ruling NC-Congress coalition was adopting discriminatory attitude towards certain areas.

“State government has failed to implement any development plan in the state. Certain areas have been apparently marked out for a kind of development apartheid,” PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said addressing party workers in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Mehbooba said not only rural areas,even the summer capital Srinagar was “experiencing a nightmare” in terms of infrastructure and services.

“People are being punished for having a government that has earned highest disapproval rates in the history of the state for its inefficient performance,” she said.

The PDP president said the problems inflicted in places of historic importance are an “indicator of the low thinking” of the present coalition headed by National Conference.

“Roads in the town look as if they have been ploughed.. the heavy dose of funds earmarked for roads has apparently vanished into thin air,” Mehbooba alleged.
