Fire causes loss worth over 2cr in J-K

Assets worth over Rs 2 crore of the Power Department were damaged in a fire at a power station in Rajouri district.

Assets worth over Rs 2 crore of the Power Department were damaged in a massive fire at a power station in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The fire occurred when a transformer installed at a Power Development Department (PDD) station in Kalakote caught fire yesterday. Subsequently,three adjoining transformers also came into the grip of the flames,officials said.

Army jawans from a nearby unit,fire service personnel and police launched a rescue operation and contained the fire,they said.

With timely action,further damage and possible loss of lives was averted,the officials said.

The loss of property was put at around Rs two crores by the concerned PDD officials.
