HP Govt to enquire into Jaypee violations

The enquiry would cover all the permissions and clearances granted under a state Act.

Even as the Opposition demanded a House Committee to look into the alleged violations of norms by builders in a green area here,Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister P K Dhumal on Friday announced that his government was ready to order an enquiry.

Dhumal said the enquiry would cover all the permissions and clearances granted under the HP Apartment and Property Regulation Act and that the Apartments Act would be repealed if it was not in the interest of the state.

“The construction work by a builder in a green area in Shimla would be stopped and the violation of environment norms,if any, would be looked into,” he said.

Earlier, replying to a question on permissions granted to builders in green areas,Urban Development Minister Mohinder Singh said the information was being collected.

Congress legislators Mukesh Agnihotri,Kaul Singh and other members alleged that the government was not willing to give relevant information on the issue and demanded the constitution of a House Committee to look into the matter.

While the Speaker tried to pacify the members,Singh assured that the work of a builder in the periphery of the town would be stopped and allegations of violations of environment norms would be enquired into.

Meanwhile,Kaul Singh asked how permission was given for developing villas in the green area here when the town was facing acute shortage of water and parking space for vehicles.

Agnihotri said it was intriguing that various clearances from relevant departments were given within a short time and government had issued essentiality certificates and given other clearance to the builder.

Agnihotri also referred to a builder developing a colony in a key tourist resort of Kasauli in Solan district and said that work was going on in violation of norms.

Leader of the Opposition Vidya Stokes also supported the demand for a House Committee and said that the matter was both important and sensitive and all actions of the government should be transparent.
