J-K to build two dams for ground water recharging

The dams are being constructed at Dabbi and Phangeri areas of the district at a cost of Rs 39 lakhs.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to set up two artificial dams in the border district of Kathua as part of its efforts to promote recharging of ground water.

The dams are being constructed at Dabbi and Phangeri areas of the district at a cost of Rs 39 lakhs,Minister for Forest and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmad said,adding that a sum of Rs 17 lakh has already been spent over the project.

Once completed,the dams will facilitate necessary supply of water to the fields,apart from providing drinking facilities to nomads and their livestock,besides the wildlife habitation.

The minister also asked officials to ensure total utilisation of funds approved for new projects and get them executed within the fixed time-frame.
