J-K to institute three more sports awards this year: Chib

We have revived Sher-e-Kashmir medals and awards for sports persons in state after eight years: Chib.

Having revived Sher-e-Kashmir awards after eight years,Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to institute three more prestigious awards for the sportspersons from the state.

“We have decided to institute three more prestigious awards in the fields of sports in the name of outstanding people of J&K,” Minister for Sports and Medical Education,R S Chib said.

These have been approved and would be instituted in the names of Madre-e-Mehrban award,Brigadier Rajinder Singh award and Barbar Shah award in various fields of sports,he said.

“We have revived Sher-e-Kashmir medals and awards for sports persons in the state after eight years and these would be given away to the selected sports persons this year,” Chib said.

Sher-e-Kashmir medals were given before 2003 in the state and we have announced now Sher-e-Kashmir medals to the best sport persons in various fields this year after a gap of eight years,he said.

The awards have been finalised for the outstanding sports persons who have brought laurels to the state of J&K by representing the country and international sports events,Chib said.

These awards would be given to the outstanding sports persons at a function on December 5 this year,coinciding with the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah,he said.

National Sports Day was organised by the department of Youth Services and Sports at K K Haku Stadium to commemorate 106th birth anniversary of late Major Dhyan Chand,a legendary hockey player,who kept Indian flag flying high in Olympic games for many years.

Over 12 veteran sports persons of J&K were honoured on the occasion by the Minister for Sports and Minister for Revenue,Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla.
