Khanduri hints at internal sabotage as reason for poll flop

BC Khanduri hinted at internal sabotage as a reason for the party's rout in the Lok Sabha elections and not his government's performance.

B C Khanduri, who resigned as Uttarakhand Chief Minister, hinted at internal sabotage as a reason for the party’s rout in the Lok Sabha elections and not his government’s performance.

Khanduri, who headed the BJP government for more than two years and whose resignation was accepted by the party on Tuesday, told a press conference here that the Lok Sabha election results were unexpected as under him,the party had won Assembly polls and by-elections.

“In the Kapkot Assembly segment, which is part of the Almora Lok Sabha seat, our candidate was leading by 2,500 votes in the Lok

Sabha elections whereas, the lead was 7,500 votes in the Assembly by-election (held after Lok Sabha polls).

“Why this difference?,” he asked apparently hinting at a possible role played by dissident leader B S Koshiyari in his own area of influence. However,Khanduri did not name anybody.

Therefore,he said,”Why these results were like these could be analysed by the party, but I believe that this was not due to any non performance on the part of our state government because before Lok Sabha elections, people supported us and what happened all of a sudden should be probed by the party.”

To a question whether the party could reward dissidence by making one of the rebels as Chief Minister,Khanduri said,”Nobody can accept (rebellion). Rebellion and reward both should be joined together. It should be analysed whether these two synchronized or not. This should be done on case to case basis.”
