In a big blow to the Pakistani based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit,state police and army in a joint operation eliminated Divisional Commander of LeT along with his body guard at Dimpha area in the mountainous Doda district on Saturday morning.
Deputy Inspector General of Police,Doda-Ramban range,Hemant Kumar Lohia identified the slain militant commander as Abu Samana,a Pakistani national and operating in Jammu region since last five years.
In a joint operation,the army and police trapped the Lashkar commander in the cordon around the Dhar forest area at Dimpha in Doda since last night after having reports that militants were hiding somewhere in the area, said Lohia and added,Later,forces managed to came close to the militants and firing was opened from both the sides.
The DIG further said that finally army and police have killed both Abu Samana and his body guard,Barkat Ali,a local militant.
Abu Samana was operating the LeT in Jammu region and in-charge of all the recruitment in the outfit and also headed the extortion system of militants in Doda and its adjoining districts, said Lohia.
Meanwhile,sources said that an army soldier was also injured in the encounter. Security forces also recovered two AK-47 riffles,some Chinese grenades and other arms and ammunition from the site.
