“Those who do not believe in the law of the land and indulge in such terrible crime should be firmly dealt with,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told reporters in the wake of the killing of at least 75 CRPF and state police personnel in Chhattisgarh.

Patnaik, who is in favour of joint operation against the red rebels, however, avoided querries on the possible change in strategy to deal with the Maoists who continued to ambush security personnel.

The Chhattisgarh incident came barely two days after the Naxals eliminated 11 security personnel in Orissa by triggering a landmine explosion in Koraput district.

The state government has sounded high alert in areas close to Chhattisgarh border with Orissa. “As there is a possibility of influx of ultras from Chhattisgarh to Orissa,we have to remain very alert,” said a senior police officer engaged in anti-Maoist operation.
