The National Conference (NC) today said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is shedding “crocodile tears” to exploit elected village heads in Jammu and Kashmir.
“PDP is shedding crocodile tears to exploit the elected Sarpanchs and Panchs (village heads) in Jammu and Kashmir”,senior NC leader and MLC Ajay Sadhotra said at a public meeting at Trilokpur in Marh Assembly Constituency here today.
The PDP leadership has perhaps forgotten that in order to kill Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state, the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led Government in 2004-2005 passed a Bill in the Assembly to curtail the life of Panchayats and nominate committees in place of elected Panchayats,Sadhotra said.
The National Conference under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah represented to the then Governor for his intervention to come to the rescue of the Panchayati Raj Institutions,he said adding that on the demand of NC and to save democracy,Governor did not give assent to the Bill and Panchayats completed their full terms.
Sadhotra said PDP has become issueless and in sheer frustration to grab power are misleading the Panchayati Raj Institutions.
