National Commission for Child Protection (NCCP) and Jammu and Kashmir government are planning a pilot project aimed at ensuring the society's active role in safeguarding child rights. NCCP Chairman Shantha Sinha met state Chief Secretary Madhav Lal here yesterday and discussed the implementation of the under-consideration project. District administration in association with village representatives and youth volunteers could mobilise the community towards rights of children, Sinha said. This will help evolve a process for ensuring full entitlements to children with a focus on education,she said,adding that people showing commitment towards the cause would be selected as nodal officers and resource persons on honorarium basis. Sinha said during their field visits to various educational zones of Bandipora and Kupwara districts,it was noticed that poverty,inadequate infrastructure and civil unrest had resulted in increased school dropout rates. The trend needs to be stopped through government intervention, she said. The Chief Secretary assured full support to the project and observed that the implementation of the project will go a long way in protecting rights of children.
