ULFA ‘vice chairman’ Gogoi released on bail

ULFA's founder 'vice chairmaan' Pradip Gogoi released from jail after 18 years and he immediately called for initiation of the peace process to end insurgency in Assam.

ULFA’s founder ‘vice chairmaan’ Pradip Gogoi was on Thursday released from jail after 18 years and he immediately called for initiation of the peace process to end insurgency in Assam.

The court of the Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrate Rabin Phukan freed Gogoi after the ULFA leader furnished Rs 12 lakh in bail bonds as sureties in nine cases.

Gogoi was granted bail earlier,but was unable to furnish the bail bond.

He was released from the Guwahati Central Jail where he was held following his arrest in 1992 from Kolkata.

He is the topmost ULFA leader to be freed after the release of the outfit’s self-styled publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary.

Talking to reporters,the ULFA leader called for resumption of peace process to end insurgency.

Gogoi urged the government to release other top jailed leaders including chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa,ideologue Bhimkanta Buragohain and deputy commander-in-chief Raju Baruah to expedite the peace process.
