‘UP has maximum cases of human rights violation’

The maximum number of complaints of human rights violations in the country in 2008 were from Uttar Pradesh,the Centre said on Wednesday.

The maximum number of complaints of human rights violations in the country in 2008 were from Uttar Pradesh,the Centre said on Wednesday.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken informed the Rajya Sabha that the National Human Rights Commission received 55,214 complaints alleging human rights violation from Uttar Pradesh last year.

The most populated state was followed by the national capital and Gujarat from where 5,616 and 3813 complaints were respectively received by the NHRC,he said.

Maken said no reports were sought from the concerned state government in this regard.
