Revanth’s ‘liquor addict’ reference to KCR sparks row in Telangana

Praising his own government’s initiatives, he said that 150 crore women in the state used the state’s free bus travel scheme since the Congress came to power in December 2023.

Continuing his attack on his predecessor K Chandrashekar Rao Sunday, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy referred to him as “alcoholic” wondering how a “liquor addict” could be called the father of Telangana.

Speaking at a ‘Praja Palana-Pragati Bata’ public programme at Shivunipally in Station Ghanpur Assembly constituency, the CM said: “KCR and BRS leaders claim that KCR is the father of Telangana. Who considers KCR the father of Telangana? Will this father of the Telangana wake up without liquor smell? A person who looted lakhs of crores (of rupees) from Telangana and is a liquor addict and sucked Telangana people’s blood cannot be the father of Telangana”.

Reddy was reacting to BRS leader Harish Rao’s statement in the Assembly last week. In his remarks, Rao called BRS president KCR “the father of Telangana” and demanded an apology from CM Revanth Reddy for making “objectionable remarks” against him for not attending the Assembly. “KCR is father of Telangana while Revanth Reddy is the father of abuses,” Harish Rao had remarked.

At the Praja Palana meeting Sunday, the CM freedom fighters like Konda Laxman Bapuji and social activists such as Kothapalli Jayashankar were the fathers of Telangana.

“The BRS chief has not come to the Assembly in the last 15 months. Yet, he is nominated as the Leader of Opposition and draws a salary when he is clearly not doing his job,” the CM observed.

Speaking at the event, the CM said Telangana had been handed over to KCR as a revenue surplus state.

“After 10 years, KCR made Telangana a bankruptcy,’’ he said. His government would disclose a list of “sins”’ committed by KCR.

“This is only the intermission. The entire list will be revealed by the end of the assembly session,” he said. “The BRS is constantly criticising us while we are making all our efforts to implement welfare schemes as promised despite all the difficulties”.

Blaming the previous BRS government for the state’s “halted development”, Revanth Reddy said: “The previous government has put the burden of Rs. 8.29 lakh crore in the last 10 years. It is required to pay Rs 1.52 lakh crore as interest and outstanding amount. The government would have built houses for all if such a big amount is saved. Farm loans can be waived for another 70 lakhs,” he said.

Praising his own government’s initiatives, he said that 150 crore women in the state used the state’s free bus travel scheme since the Congress came to power in December 2023.

“Government paid Rs 5,005 crore for this. Is it not true? 200 units of free power is supplied to 50 lakh families. Isn’t it true? Rs 20,610 crore farm loans waived off. Recruited 57,946 government jobs. The government is striving to solve all the problems in Telangana society. But BRS criticises everything,” he said.
