Ritu Sarin of The Indian Express appointed to the board of ICIJ

“I have the utmost admiration and respect for Ritu, having worked alongside her and her team at The Indian Express in many different projects over more than a decade in my time as ICIJ director. Together, we have literally rocked the world with some of the best journalism in the world. She is a wonderful journalist and a true leader and I look forward to working with her as part of ICIJ’s board,” ICIJ director Gerard Ryle said.

“As a long-term ICIJ member and one of Asia’s most respected investigative journalists, she will bring deep experience and wisdom to the board,” the chair of the ICIJ board, Rhona Murphy, said.

Sarin, who has been a member of the ICIJ since 1999 and is a founder-member of the ICIJ Network Committee, said: “I am privileged to be joining the very eminent board of the ICIJ and to represent Asia’s growing investigative reporting prowess on its platforms.”

“She is fiercely brave. Her team takes on the most powerful people in India without ever flinching,” ICIJ managing editor Fergus Shiel said.

The ICIJ statement noted that Sarin has been recognised with many awards, including the prestigious International Press Institute award for excellence in journalism and the 2007 Ramnath Goenka Journalist of the Year. Sarin is the co-author of ‘The Panama Papers: The Untold India Story of the Trailblazing Global Offshore Investigation’.
