Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence on Tuesday evening.
This came after Modi chaired a meeting of the top defence establishment, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and all three chiefs of the armed forces.
The RSS chief, who has been in the capital since early last week, had during a book launch last Saturday quoted from the Chanakyaniti to underline “the duty of the king to protect his people”.
“Ahimsa (non-violence) hi hamara swabhav hai, hamara mulya hai ahimsya (Non-violence is our nature, it is our value)…” he had said.
“But, our ahimsa is to make others ahimsak; some will become that, some will not. Ravan ka bhi jo vadh hua, uske kalyan ke liye hua… Bhagwan ne uska sanghar kiya… Woh ahimsa hi hai (Ravan was killed for his own benefit… The Lord killed him… this too is ahimsa,” he had said.
Non-violence, he had added, was “our dharma”, but so was “not getting assaulted by tyrants” and teaching those “doing gundagardi” a lesson.
“Hum kabhi bhi apne padosiyon ki koi apman, koi haani nahin karte. Lekin, agar tab bhi koi utar aaye burai par, to phir doosra ilaj kya hai? Raja ka kartavya hai praja ki raksha karna. Raja apna kartavya karega (We never insult or harm our neighbours. But if someone still resorts to evil, what is the solution? It is the king’s duty to protect his people; the king will discharge his duty,” he had said.
