SC disposes of Hemant’s plea over HC’s delay in pronouncing order on arrest

Heman Soren had approached the SC alleging that the HC was delaying in giving a decision on his petition challenging his arrest.

The Supreme Court on Friday disposed of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s plea over the High Court’s delay in pronouncing an order on his plea challenging arrest as it noted that the petition has become infructuous because the order has been delivered.

A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta noted that the appropriate remedy was to challenge the May 3 HC order and said his other petition challenging the same will come up for hearing next week.

“It is clarified that all pleas and contentions can be raised in the SLP filed challenging the HC order of May 3, 2024,” the bench said.

Soren had approached the SC alleging that the HC was delaying in giving a decision on his petition challenging his arrest.
