A joint team of the Indian Army and the Manipur Police defused seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the Imphal East district on Saturday. Official sources said they deployed the joint team in the Saichang Itham area after getting a tip-off. The areas where the bombs were found are primarily inhabited by farmers and cattle grazers. The total weight of the bombs was 33 kg. “In a swift and decisive joint operation, the Indian Army in collaboration with the Manipur Police successfully detected and defused seven IEDs in the Saichang Itham area of Imphal East district, averting a major tragedy in the region,” said a defence spokesperson. “The recovery has dealt a severe blow to the nefarious designs of inimical elements planning subversive activities,” he added. This incident came days after the Army and the police seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition in the Imphal East district.
