Sheena Bora murder: Peter Mukerjea questioned for over 12 hrs

Peter Mukerjea had gone to the police station last week, but the Mumbai Police had refused to accept a written statement from him and he was told that when the police needed, they would call him for questioning.

Peter Mukerjea was questioned by police for more than 12 hours on Wednesday in connection with the Sheena Bora murder case in which his wife Indrani Mukerjea is an accused.

Sources said Peter told the police he believed his wife that Sheena was her sister although at least three others in the family, including Sheena, told him she was Indrani’s daughter.

More than a week after Indrani’s arrest, Peter, a former Star India CEO, was called for questioning to Khar police station. Sources said there were aspects of the probe that had to be verified and corroborated, and his statement was necessary. “There are inconsistencies in his statement. A lot needs to be verified,” a senior official said.

A police team visited Peter’s Worli home and took documents, reportedly pertaining to financial arrangements between Peter, Indrani and Sheena, into custody, said sources.

Officials said Peter would be called again. Indrani and the other accused in the case, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai, were also questioned.

According to sources. Peter said he was first informed of the mother-daughter relationship in 2008 in a letter from Sheena’s brother Mekhail Bora. Sheena informed him Indrani was her mother, in 2010, a year before she got engaged to Rahul Mukerjea, Peter’s son from an earlier marriage. Around the time of their engagement in November 2011, Rahul too informed Peter his fiance was Indrani’s daughter, the police claimed.

Meanwhile, the police confirmed the car in which Sheena was picked up, later strangled and transported to Raigad was booked by Indrani in the name Peter’s company. The 24-year-old was allegedly murdered on April 24, 2012.

The car rental firm’s owner told the police the vehicle was booked by a person from the company on Indrani’s behalf, said sources. The firm knew Rai was Indrani’s driver and he picked up the car, the sources added.
