TBSE Class 12 exams commence Friday, Class 10 Board exams to start tomorrow

The Class 12 examinations conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) commenced on Friday as per schedule.

Speaking to reporters in Agartala, TBSE Chief Dr Dhananjoy Gonchoudhury said, “A total of 25,345 candidates have enrolled for the examinations, of whom 24,263 are regular students, 338 are continued, 525 are compartmental, 192 are external and three are from the equivalence category.”

A total of 60 centres and 98 venues have been set up for the Class 12 exams, added Gonchoudhury.

The Class 12 examination started with the English paper on Friday. It will be followed by the Vernacular paper (Bengali/ Hindi/ Kokborok/ Mizo) on March 4, Chemistry and Political Science on March 6, Business Studies, Education and Physics on March 9, Accountancy, Biology, and History on March 11, Mathematics and Philosophy on March 13, Economics on March 15, Psychology on March 18, Geography on March 20, Sanskrit, Arabic and Statistics on March 22, Sociology on March 26, Computer Science and Music on March 28 and vocational subjects on March 30.

The TBSE got embroiled in controversy earlier this year after the board president said students opting for the Kokborok language paper will not be allowed to write in the Roman script, citing a lack of sufficient qualified evaluators.

After an indefinite strike across the state, and going back and forth on the issue multiple times, the Board finally announced that students taking the Kokborok exam can use both Roman and Bengali scripts, like in the last 18 years.

The Madhyamik or the Class 10 Board examinations are scheduled to commence on Saturday.
