Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma (File Photo)Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Monday said he would support any party that promises a constitutional solution for the ‘Greater Tipraland’ issue.
“Lok Sabha election comes once in five years. We shall support those who will give justice to Tiprasa (tribals), who will give us a constitutional solution and be with us… If you want to give, give to my Tiprasa. I don’t need a single penny…” said Debbarma while addressing the party’s third foundation day program held at Malancha Niwas in Agartala.
Criticising Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) President Dr Dhananjoy Ganchoudhury for the Kokborok script controversy, he said, “I am not against the Bengali script, but students (taking Kokborok exams) should be given the option to choose their script. If someone says that cases will be filed if you write in the Roman script, then we shall give him a befitting reply. If our children fail today, then they will not get jobs tomorrow, and their lives will be ruined. You can’t keep our children down in the name of script and religion.” Debbarma then asked the TBSE chief to change his stance on the script issue in the next three to four days.
He highlighted that East Pakistan broke away from Pakistan and became a sovereign Bangladesh as Urdu was being forced on the Bengalis.
The Tipra Motha founder reiterated that his party was against the demand of delisting Tiprasas from the Scheduled Tribe category based on religion.
Debbarma also requested other Opposition parties like the CPI(M) and the Congress to raise the ‘Greater Tipraland’ issue in Delhi.
“This is not politics. The country is bigger than politics. Family, community, mother, and country, are always bigger than politics,” he said.
He also announced that the party would become active in other parts of the Northeast and raise the issues of tribal people outside Tripura as well.
