Tripura to procure 15,000 MT paddy at MSP from June 15

The state would procure paddy from 31 designated centres at Rs 21.83 per kilogram

Tripura’s BJP-led government on Monday announced to start procurement of 15,000 metric tonne paddy from farmers at minimum support price from June 15 during the Rabi season.

The state would procure paddy from 31 designated centres at Rs 21.83 per kilogram.

While speaking to the media at Civil Secretariat on Monday, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that the procurement process would begin from Jolaibari in South district through a state-level programme along with five other districts including West district, Sepahijala district, Khowai district, Dhalai district and Gomati district.

“After formation of BJP government since 2018, the state government started procurement of paddy from farmers during Kharif and Rabi crop season twice a year. So far, the state procured 1,92,052 metric tons paddy directly from the farmers in exchange of Rs. 372 crores. It benefitted 1,00,309 farmers”, said Chowdhury highlighting the state government’s commitment to procure paddy at minimum support price from the farmers.

He further informed that the state government bought five new trucks for transportation of food crops with disbursement of nearly Rs. 1.86 crores.

Earlier in December last year, the state government announced to procure 40,000 metric tonnes of paddy from 49 procurement centres at minimum support price of Rs. 21.83 per kilogram from December till January 31 this year.
