Two unidentified infiltrators were killed in a gunbattle on Sunday on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Keran sector, sources said. The sources said that the Army on Sunday noticed suspicious movement on the Line of Control in Kupwara. They said that as the Army challenged the infiltrators, they opened fire at the troops. "The Army returned the fire leading to a gunfight," a source said. "Two infiltrators were killed in the gunfight," the source added. Sources said that the Army had launched search operations in the area to see if any more infiltrators were in the area. "The sanitisation operation is going on," the source said. The Army is yet to ascertain the identity of the infiltrating militants or their affiliation. "The operation in the area continues," the source said. The infiltration attempt was foiled a day after a senior Border Security Force (BSF) officer said the launching pads opposite their area of responsibility in Kupwara, Bandipora and Baramulla districts showed the presence of militants and that there was a need to remain alert.
