Looking ahead, politically, 2024 is set to be the year of the world’s biggest election exercise, with India, the United States and Russia set to vote to elect their governments.
In India, after a year marked by mostly ups than downs, the BJP is preparing for both continuity and change in 2024, writes Vikas Pathak in his latest analysis. After the recent Assembly election victories, the party is confident of returning to power nationally for the third straight term.
According to a BJP insider, if the BJP wins, one will have to watch out for the new Council of Ministers closely as some old faces may be eased out and new ones may be given ministries. Once the Lok Sabha elections are done and dusted with, the BJP will have three Assembly elections to prepare for. State elections are due in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Jharkhand in 2024. There is also the election to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir that the Supreme Court has instructed be held by September.
