The national capital began Wednesday on a warmer note, with the minimum temperature settling at 23.4°C to 1.8 degrees above the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The day is expected to remain clear, turning partly cloudy by evening or night. The mercury is likely to touch a high of 37°C, while humidity at 8:30 am was recorded at 50 per cent.

Delhi’s air quality stood in the ‘moderate’ category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 184 at 9 am, as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Heatwave conditions

The weather department has predicted of severe heatwave conditions in parts of West Rajasthan, with temperatures soaring between April 16 and 18. East Rajasthan and Gujarat are also expected to experience isolated heatwave pockets during the same period. Warm night conditions are likely in these regions as well as parts of West Madhya Pradesh.

Several regions, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Karnataka, and Gujarat, will face hot and humid conditions on Wednesday. The discomfort index is expected to remain high due to rising temperatures and moisture in the air.

Heavy rains and thunderstorms

A cyclonic circulations and troughs across the country is set to bring scattered to fairly widespread rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) to Northeast and East India over the next five days.

Heavy rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya today and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Thursday.

Partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers is also expected in Bengaluru for Wednesday, as per the weather bulletin.

For the next two days, thunderstorms with wind speeds of 50–60 kmph may hit Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal.

Jharkhand and Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds between April 16 to 18.

The central plains, including Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and parts of Maharashtra, may see isolated rainfall and thunderstorms on Wednesday.

Yesterday’s weather conditions

Heavy rainfall was recorded in isolated parts of Odisha, with Katak receiving 8 cm on Tuesday. Thunderstorms with squally winds were observed in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Duststorms hit isolated areas in East Uttar Pradesh, while West Rajasthan saw severe heatwave conditions.
