KHARAR, January 18: Over 1.30 lakh children below five years were administered polio drops in Roopnagar district today as part of the second phase of the country-wide Pulse Polio immunisation programme for eradication of polio.

Disclosing this, Dr Darshan Kumar Batta, Civil Surgeon, Roopnagar, said that Deputy Commissioner Kulbir Singh Sidhu inaugurated the campaign by administering the first polio dose this morning. He said that as many as 761 centres were set up at various schools, health centres and village panchayat ghars all over the district for immunising the children. 58 mobile posts and special booths were also set up at railway stations, bus stands, brick-kilns and on the road sides in the entire district.

Dr Batta stated that over 3,000 government employees as well as the representatives of various social and voluntary organisations were mobilised for this purpose.

Meanwhile, Dr Sukhwant Singh Dhanoa, Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Kharar Civil Hospital, told that over 4,000 children were administered polio drops in the township. He said that SDM Avtar Chand Sharma inaugurated the campaign. A total of 10 centres and a mobile team were set up in various parts of the township. The programme was organised with the collaboration of the local Rotary Club.
