A suicide car bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a Pakistan army convoy near the Afghan border on Wednesday, killing five soldiers and five civilians, officials said.

Several more soldiers and civilians were injured the attack in North Waziristan, a restive tribal region where Taliban and al-Qaeda militants operate, two intelligence officials .

The soldiers were on their way to the town of Bannu from Miran Shah, North Waziristan’s main town when they were attacked.

“It was a suicide attack, and we think

local militants are responsible for it,” an official said.

A second official said five youths who were playing cricket near the road were also killed in the blast.
