NEW DELHI, MAY 8: An Uttar Pradesh police constable was crushed by a train when he tried to jump across a railway track to board a Meerut bound train at the Tilak Bridge around 6.25 p.m. on Friday.

Police said constable Chandi Prasad disembarked from the Agra-Delhi passenger train when it stopped at Platform number 1 of the Tilak Bridge railway station. From the platform he saw the Meerut bound shuttle at platform number 4.

“The Meerut shuttle leaves around 6.30 p.m. In his haste to board the train constable Chandi Prasad ran towards it and jumped onto the track. He, according to eye witnesses, did not see the local Faridabad bound EMU train entering platform number 2. As soon as he jumped on the track he was hit by the train and died on the spot,” a police official at the station said.

He was identified by his identity card in the pocket. The UP Police have been informed about the mishap, the police added.
