NEW DELHI, June 19: Eighteen new flyovers, full statehood and the metro rail projects will be taken up on priority, Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma and Lieutenant-Governor Vijai Kapoor announced today at the inauguration of the new Yamuna Bridge, Lok Nayak Setu, at ITO today.The bridge was inaugurated and opened for traffic by Union Home Minister L.K. Advani.

Speaking on the occasion, Sahib Singh said work on the 18 new fly overs will begin in few months. While 15 of them would be completed in 18 to 24 months, three flyovers, one each at AIIMS crossing, Dhaula Kuan and Azadpur, would take three to four years.

He said besides these, few more bridges would be built over Yamuna. One of these bridges would be coming up near Noida and the other one at Wazirabad, which would be built with the assistance of Thailand.

Home Minister Advani in his speech stressed that Central Government was serious about giving Delhi full statehood.

Lt Governor Vijai Kapoor expressed satisfaction that the work on the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had commenced on Shadara-Subzi Mandi line.
