Lt Gen T K Sapru, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Western Command, presented gallantry and distinguished service medals to 19 military personnel at an Investiture ceremony held at the Clement Town Cantonment here on Tuesday. Eight Sena Medals (including one posthumous) were presented for gallantry and an equal number of Sena Medals for devotion to duty while three personnel were awarded Vishisht Sewa Medals (VSMs). Geeta Devi, wife of Grenadier Virender Singh, who laid down his life fighting terrorists, received her husband’s medal from the GOC-in-C. The state Government has offered a job to Geeta Devi in Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam, a public sector unit. Others who received the Sena Medals for gallantry included Col Vinod Balakrishna Shrikhande, Lt Col Pankaj Sawhney, Major Upendra Kumar Srivastava, Capt Bimlesh Kumar, Capt Mohiteshwar Thakur, N K Govind Singh and Havaldar Darbar Singh.
