The Andhra Pradesh police today killed two suspected Naxalites, including a woman, in an encounter near the AP-Chhattisgarh border. Officials said, this morning, the police were on a routine patrol when they stumbled upon a Naxal hideout in a forest area in Khammam district this morning. Superintendent of Police RK Meena said that the two were killed after an exchange of fire. Five others, however, managed to escape.

“At 8.30 am this morning, the team stumbled upon them while carrying out combing operation in the Kotapalli forest area,’’ said Meena. He said the two bodies have not yet been identified. Two rifles, ammunition and a few Naxalite literature were recovered from the spot.

The Khammam district has seen a large number of Naxalite surrenders this month. Recently, 18 Naxalites, belonging to different groups, surrendered in the district. Yesterday, five other Naxalites surrendered to Meena.
