With his second century of the match Yuvraj Singh today made two statements: I am fit and not merely a one-day specialist. While the confusion over his fitness on eve of the North vs East Duleep Trophy was put to rest on Day One as he hit 106, the third day of the game saw him score 148 to stake his claim for a place in the Test side.

And the man who had made quite a few tongues wagging over his attitude and fitness before the Duleep trophy, finally got his turn to speak. ‘‘I am a one-day player, but I am willing to play anywhere in the batting order if selected for the Test team,” said the left-hander after scoring his second ton in three days. As for the game North Zone, courtesy Yuvraj’s heroics, were sitting pretty. After managing to squeeze out a slender eight-run first innings lead in the morning, North Zone reached a healthy 292/3 at close.

The other star of the day was Test opener Aakash Chopra, who missed his century by five runs, added 230-run stand with Yuvraj to set North on the victory path.

Brief scores:

North Zone:

330 and 292/3 (Chopra 95, Yuvraj 148) vs East Zone: 322 (A Das 70, D Gandhi 42, K Powar 102, A Nehra 2/50, J Sharma 2/59, Sarandeep 5/64).
