29 vie for declamation honour

CHANDIGARH, Nov 25: Twenty-nine speakers competed for top honours in the declamation contest jointly organised by the Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women and the State AIDS Control Society here today. The contest was part of the 15-day awareness programme undertaken in connection with World AIDS Day which falls on December 1.

UT Finance Secretary G. Vajralingam inaugurated the college-level contest which was judged by ex-MCM DAV Hindi Department head Shashi Nanda, ex-DAV College for Men English Department professor C.L. Dhamija and Dr Roma Uppal of the PGI.

First prizes went to:
English — Mansi Gupta, MCM DAV Collge; Hindi — Monish Sharma, GCM Sector 11; Punjabi — Navjot Kaur, MCM DAV College.

In the school section, judged by Dr Gupta of Dainik Tribune, ex-GCG Sector 11 principal Dr Kala and Punjab University Sociology Department reader Sherry Sabharwal, first prizes went to:
English — Khurshid, GMSS, Sector 10; Hindi — Yashwinder Kaur, GSS School, Sector 47; Punjabi — Ravneet Kaur, GMSS School, Sector 33.
