Thirty-five passengers, including five policemen, were killed and 15 others critically injured when a bus skidded off the road into a deep gorge near Mandi in Poonch on Monday afternoon.
Dr Mohammad Younis, Block Medical Officer of Mandi, said 21 people including four policemen died on the spot. Four of the deceased have been identified as Constable Altaf Hussain, Special Police Officer Abdul Aziz and Constable Mohammad Rashid, besides driver Chani. Passers-by tried to rescue the injured from the bus.
In the meantime, police and Army personnel reached the spot. They shifted the injured to hospitals in Mandi and in Poonch town. Some of the critically injured were referred to the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu.
