Four persons were killed and nineteen others injured when a bridge built over a drainage in New Delhi collapsed on Saturday evening, fire brigade officials said.
The incident took place at around 4:50 pm near Taj Mansingh hotel.
Four people were killed and nineteen others were wounded, the officials said, adding the injured were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
The identity of the victims was not known immediately.
The bridge is ‘very old one’ and the heavy rains in the past few days might have caused the collapse, officials said.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit visited the spot and announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the families of those who died.
The families who lost their minor children will get Rs 50,000 while the injured will be given a compensation of Rs 20,000.
