4-yr-old dies after falling into borewell

A four-year-old girl, who fell into a 60-foot-deep borewell near here, died on Sunday evening even as two units of the army and experts from ONGC were on their way to save her, officials said.

Despite frantic efforts, the fire brigade and a medical team could not save Aarti Chavda, who fell into the abandoned well while playing there this afternoon, they said. Aarti’s body was taken out from the narrow mouth of the borewell around 8.10 pm using a hook, Bhavnagar District’s Additional Divisional Magistrate K Vasava said.

The girl died even as rescue teams, including two units of the Indian Army, fire brigade personnel from Ahmedabad and experts from the ONGC and Alang Ship breaking yard were on their way to save her.
