MOSCOW, DECEMBER 5: Five crew members were killed and two seriously injured when a cargo plane of Uzbekistan Airlines crashed and tore into pieces soon after taking off at Domodedovo airport here early today.

The Tashkent-bound IL-114 aircraft crashed 400 metres from the runway with its cargo of paints catching fire immediately, NTV Channel reported.While five crew members died in the crash, the chief pilot and a technician survived and have been hospitalised with serious injuries, the TV channel said.

According to preliminary reports, the cause of the crash was either a strong sideward gust of wind or a fire in one of the engines at the time of take-off, NTV said quoting airport officials.

The flight recorder of the plane has been recovered and investigations were on.
