Violence broke out in Punjalal ni Chali of Raikhad area today after residents of two communities clashed over a petty issue. Five persons have been reported injured while nine have been arrested.
‘‘We are recording the statements of eyewitnesses and residents of the locality. This will reveal more names and more arrests will be made,’’ said Gaekwad Haveli Senior Police Inspector B.D. Sioni.
Meanwhile, Vadodara Police Commissioner D.D. Tuteja has ordered an inquiry into Friday’s violence in Hathikhana violence which left four dead.
The probe will be conducted by Joint Commissioner of Police P.C. Thakur and will check for a security lapse. He insisted that news of gangster Abu Salem’s arrest had caused unrest in the minority-dominated area. When it was pointed out that the news about Salem’s arrest came only after the clashes, Tuteja said: ‘‘Who knows? The news source could have been from Dubai,’’ without elaborating.
But Tuteja modified his statement a little, saying that the theory was based on information provided by some Muslim residents.
