Bringing ‘‘disgrace to police force,’’ seven cops — without showing any resistance — surrendered before militants and allowed them to loot 11 weapons, a wireless set and ammunition from Singhpora Post in Chatroo forests of Doda district during wee hours today. For their ‘‘act of cowardice’’ all the seven — including six SPOs and a constable — have been arrested and discharged from duty. Sources said, around 3:30 a.m., a group of nearly 15 heavily armed LeT militants fired at the post.Three SPOs fled the spot and took shelter in the nearby forest while the other four security personnel, including constable Bashir Ahmad, who is also incharge of the post, remained at the post, sources said. All the four, without even firing a single shot, allowed the militants to take away arms and ammunition, said a senior police officer.Satvir Gupta, DIG, Doda-Udhampur Range, said: ‘‘Such acts of cowardice cannot be tolerated. None fired even a single shot and allowed the militants to run away with weapons. All the six SPOs have been disengaged and constable Bashir Ahmad discharged from duty.’’ Though 17 security personnel were on duty at the post, only seven were present at the time of the attack. The rest are said to have gone on leave.
